K-8 Homeschool

The DSIS elementary Homeschool is designed for K-8th grade students and supports a home-based, parent-guided educational process with the parent recognized as the primary instructor. The focus is to ensure quality education according to each child’s individual strengths and growth areas.

Each DSIS supervising teacher meets weekly with the homeschool family to monitor student progress and to provide curriculum guidance and instructional activities. The educational program is guided by current state standards, through the use of district-adopted materials.

In addition to meeting with homeschooling families, the supervising teachers provide a variety of workshops, field trips, and other educational and enrichment activities. The workshops meet weekly and serve students in a multi-age format. Workshop content draws from all areas of the curriculum to enrich the homeschooling experience, while providing opportunities for cooperative group work, and social interactions with other students.  Homeschooling 7-8th grade students also have the option of taking small, in-person classes at DSIS.

9-12th Grade Hybrid Academy

Our 9-12th grade Hybrid students also have a one-on-on meeting each week with a DSIS teacher. In addition to their regular meetings, students attend in-person classes at DSIS.

Hybrid learning is an approach to education that combines online curriculum with traditional face-to-face classroom methods. Students in the Hybrid Academy typically spend 2-3 partial days on campus each week.  In this way, students have more flexibility over their schedules, and similar to a college environment, will spend less time in a classroom and more time working independently or collaboratively with other students.

7-12th Grade Virtual Academy

Our 7-12th grade Virtual students also have a one-on-on meeting each week with a DSIS teacher. In addition to their regular meetings, students attend virtual classes online with DSIS teachers.  The DSIS Virtual Academy primarily uses an online curriculum called Edgenuity which consists of pre-recorded lecture videos and follow-up assignments.  Students also have assignments on Canvas as well as on-site proctored assessments.  The Virtual Academy is our most flexible program and requires that students hold responsibility for their learning and task completion to a high degree.
